Union MoS inspects urban development schemes, meets officials in Manipur

IMPHAL, Jan 19: Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu, who is on a two-day visit to Manipur, on Sunday inspected houses constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U) at Kakching town, about 45 km south of Imphal in Kakching district.
Apart from inspecting houses at Ward No. 7 under the Kakching Municipal Council (KMC), the Union Minister also visited Salam Project Pukhri Achouba, which has been rejuvenated under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0.
He later interacted with members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) near Leibaklei Gas and inspected the Moramba Solid Waste Management site under the Swachh Bharat Mission at Kakching Moramba.
The Minister also inspected Kakching District Hospital and visited stalls set up by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the DC’s Office complex, where crochet dolls and sanitary pads made by the IDPs were displayed.
Later, accompanied by Kakching DC Uppuluri Chaitanya, Superintendent of Police Priyadarshini Laishram and other officials, Sahu attended a tree plantation programme.
On Saturday, the Union Minister reviewed the progress of various centrally sponsored flagship programmes of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and chaired a meeting of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO) and National Buildings Construction Corporation (India) Limited (NBCC) in Imphal.
After reviewing presentations on the schemes, he said, “The Prime Minister has changed the outlook of the Northeast states,” and urged officials to report issues and challenges hindering effective implementation of the programmes.
Sahu also held a brief discussion with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan on the future course of urban development in the State.
In the evening, accompanied by Kakching MLA M Rameshwar Singh, the Minister interacted with district-level officers in Kakching and reviewed the implementation of flagship schemes by various departments. Urging officials to implement programmes sincerely, he said all suggestions were welcome and assured them of support for the growth and development of the district.
