Sikkim reports 16 more COVID-19 cases, one fresh fatality

Gangtok, Sept 20: Sikkim reported 16 new COVID-19 cases, which raised its tally to 30,971, while one more fatality pushed the toll to 380, according to a bulletin issued by the health department on Monday.

East Sikkim registered eight fresh cases, followed by four each in West Sikkim and South Sikkim, the bulletin stated. The Himalayan state currently has 654 active cases, while 29,630 people have recovered from the disease. At least 307 patients have migrated out. East Sikkim has logged the highest number of COVID-19 cases thus far at 17,168, followed by South Sikkim, at 6,901, West Sikkim at 5,943 and North Sikkim at 652.

As many as 2,43,565 samples have been tested in the state till date, including 321 since Sunday. The positivity rate stands at 4.9 percent and the recovery rate at 96.6 per cent, the bulletin said. Sikkim has administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine to 99.87 per cent of its eligible population, while 58.20 per cent have received both the jabs, it added.
