Guwahati, Jan 17: In a breakthrough development, the Assam Rifles recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition in Noney district of Manipur on Sunday.

The development comes at a time when the State will be going to the polls next month.

Sharing the information on Twitter, the Assam Rifles mentioned that an operation was launched by the Noney Battalion of the Assam Rifles on January 15, following which the weapons were discovered. The tweet further informed that other war-like stores were also recovered during the operation.

During the operation, one 9mm pistol with magazine, 12 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition and one magazine of M-16 Rifle were recovered.

The State Assembly elections will be held from 27 February to 3 March 2022 in two phases, to elect 60 members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. The votes will be counted and the results will be declared on 10 March 2022.
