AJYCP launches statewide signature campaign demanding justice for Zubeen Garg

Guwahati, Nov 18: The Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Monday rolled out a state-wide mass signature campaign demanding justice for late music icon Zubeen Garg, whose mysterious death nearly two months ago continues to stir public outrage across Assam.

According to AJYCP central leaders Palash Changmai and Bijon Bayan, the government has shown "serious negligence" in ensuring a fair and transparent probe. They alleged that despite the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), people of the State remain unconvinced about the progress of the investigation.

The organisation claimed that both the SIT and the CID have engaged in "irrelevant activities" in the name of inquiry, summoning some individuals unnecessarily while failing to question key organizers of the North East Festival and the fashion show held in Singapore - events that Zubeen attended shortly before his death.

AJYCP further criticized Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for "contradictory public statements" regarding the government's links with Shyamkanu Ma-hanta.

The group said the Chief Minister's earlier claim that the government had no association with Mahanta has now been proven untrue.

The leaders warned that if an iconic figure like Zubeen Garg is denied justice, the public's trust in the government and administration will crumble. They reiterated that Zubeen, who was once an active member of AJYCP, deserves a fair and thorough investigation.

On Sunday, regional units of the organization conducted mass signature drives across Assam.

AJYCP has also announced state-wide observances of the artiste's birth anniversary on Monday, followed by motorcycle rallies at district headquarters to amplify the demand for justice.

The organisation asserted that the people of Assam will not forgive any "negligence" in the pursuit of truth behind the artiste’s death.
