Guwahati, Oct 18: The Indo-German co-production Assamese film 'Jolsobi' (End of Spring) got an invitation for the 'New Directors Competition' section at the 45th Sao Paulo International Film Festival, popularly known as Mostra in Brazil.

The 14-day long festival will begin from October 21 to November 3 in Sao Paulo.

"I'm happy at the moment to get the invitation to Mostra," director Jaicheng Zxai Dohutia told The Assam Tribune.

"We have had a lot of tough times due to the pandemic and all. But this is welcome news not just for me but for the entire cast, crew and the unit members besides our well-wishers and people of Assam. Mostra is regarded as one of the most prestigious and one of the oldest festivals in Latin America."

The festival has four main sections – International Perspective, New Directors Competition, Show Brazil and Special Presentation. Last year Prateek Vats' 'Eeb Allay Ooo' was the only film from India in the 'New Directors Competition' section. The film Jolsobi is made under Mayamara Art and Culture in association with Mogador Film (Berlin), FunDeMental Studios (Frankfurt) and Arman Productions (India).

The film narrates the story of Tapashi. With lots of dreams, Tapashi comes back home to the countryside after completing her university education. She tries her best to settle in against all the odds. Tapashi gradually starts to realise the harsh realities of rural life – the unemployment, lack of communication, lack of modern yet basic facilities of life and others.

Whenever she looks at her poor father and unemployed brother she doesn't want to end like them. Instead, she wants to do something on her own, for her and her family. She tries hard but nothing seems to work out. And slowly her parents get uneasy with the situation. They arrange a marriage for her against her will. And then is there a possibility to live her dreams?

Produced by Jaicheng Zxai Dohutia and Bhupali Moran. Co-Produced by Arman Ahmed, Christoph Thoke, Andreas Lucas, Srikumar Dohutia and Manash Protim Dutta. Aspiring Assamese actress Darathie Bharadwaj has played the lead role. The other actors to feature in the film are Numal Chandra Gogoi, Durlabha Moran, Dulukanta Moran, Akhil Bihiya Gogoi, Biponjit Gogoi, Karabi Dowarah, Bishal Anurag, Geetashree Dohutia and Rashmi Rekha Dohutia among others.

The film is cinematographed by Chida Bora and the director Dohutia himself. The sound design is done by Oliver Achatz and Debajit Gayan. Art direction is done by Punyajit Moran, Prakashdeep Dohutia and Biponjit Gogoi.

The film will have its world premiere at the Espaco Itau De Cinema on October 26. Another two shows will be held in different theatres including one online after that. – Ends
