Arunachal reports highest single-day spike of 234 COVID cases

Itanagar, May 5: Continuing its upward trend in the rate of infections, Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday reported the highest single-day spike with 234 new cases, taking its active caseload to 1632. With this, the tally of confirmed cases in the State crossed the 19k-mark, to be precise at 19,192, stated a senior Health department official here.

As many as 138 COVID patients also recuperated during the same the period, taking the total number of recovered cases to 17,501, according to a bulletin issued by the State Directorate of Health Services here late Tuesday evening.

Of the fresh infections, Itanagar Capital Complex accounted for 65 cases that took its caseload count to 466. Lower Dibang Valley, the second in line, contracted 26 thereby raising its total active cases to 296. West Kameng, the number three in terms of infections, detected nine cases that upped its total cases to 137.

Anjaw reported 23 cases, Lower Subansiri 19, Papum Pare 18, East Siang 14, Namsai 12 and Changlang nine. Seven cases each detected in Upper Siang & Lohit, six in Tawang, five in Tirap and four in Dibang Valley. West Siang, Upper Subansiri & Siang contracted two cases each, as a single case each was found in Leparada, Pakke Kessang, Lower Siang and Kamle.

180 of the total cases were found to be asymptomatic and 54 symptomatic, as per the bulletin.

The state's COVID-19 recovery rate currently stood at 91.19 per cent, while the positivity rate is 8.50 per cent. The virus has so far taken away 59 lives, including three in its second wave.

On a constant rise, the State Tuesday tested 3827 samples for COVID-19, taking the cumulative figure to 4,67,378, stated the bulletin.
