Silchar, June 18: As monsoon knocked the doors across North East, the Silchar-Jayantia road connecting the IOC bottling plant at Dholcherra under Borkhola constituency in Cachar District in a shambles, inconveniencing the truckers and also to the everyday commuters.

Locals of the area informed that the dilapidated condition of the road is posing serious deterrence not to commercial vehicles but also to the residents as well. "We are hapless. This road is a vital link with the rest of the country as LPG cylinders are transported from here to the rest of the North Eastern state and also to the other parts of the country but with the road worsening for a stretch of at least five kilometres, we are made to suffer a great deal.

We urge Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to look into the matter ," said Kanailal Sutradhar, Anjan Paul and others. Meanwhile, when contacted for his reactions, local legislator Misbahul Islam Laskar admitted that the worsening of the road is indeed a matter of concern. "I have visited the spot three days ago and spoke to the PWD officials on ways to mend the road.

The officials told me that the Government is coming up with an Assam Mala road plan which would cover portions of the road and repair work would be carried out under the provisions of the plan. However, since the issue would take a considerable amount of time, I have asked the officials to pitch in efforts to at least make the road motorable for the people of the proximity. Higher PWD officials are likely to visit the district within the next few days and I would meet them to find a solution at the earliest," the legislator maintained.
