Guwahati, Jan 15: A significant drop has been witnessed in the number of rhino poaching in the state, as the previous year saw only one incident of rhino poaching in April 2021, informed Special DGP (Law and Order), GP Singh.

Sharing year-wise data on the poaching of rhinos that took place in Assam, Singh credited the Anti-Poaching Task Force for the containment of poaching of the one-horned rhino. He also complimented the Assam Police and the personnel of the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve for the major achievement.

The Anti Poaching task force was constituted by the Assam Government last year to protect the one-horned rhino under the chairmanship of GP Singh.

As per the data shared by Singh in the year 2018, 7 cases of poaching were reported, whereas, in 2019, 3 cases were reported, followed by 2 in the year 2020.

"Anti-Poaching Task Force would be ruthless in eliminating Rhino poaching in Assam and aims to eliminate this menace," Singh tweeted.

After assuming the office of the CM, Himanta Biswa Sarma directed to prepare a plan to ensure that poachers cannot kill rhinoceros in Kaziranga National Park for any reason and that the poachers should not enter the park at any cost, following which the task force was formed.
