Guwahati, May 8: No decision on the next Chief Minister of Assam could be taken at the series of meetings between BJP top brass, Sarbananda Sonowal and Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma at New Delhi today, seven days after the alliance led by the party had retained power in the State for the second consecutive term.

Incumbent chief minister Sonowal and Minister Dr Sarma had reached the national capital this morning, as per summons from the central leadership.

They flew together in a chartered flight, accompanied by a couple of MLAs.

Dr Sarma first closeted in a meeting with the party's top leaders at BJP national president JP Nadda's residence.

Sonowal then met the leaders in a separate meeting at the same venue, before both the leaders together sat with the central leadership for the third and final round of talks today.

Emerging from the meeting, Dr Sarma told reporters that the newly-elected MLAs are likely to take the final call at Guwahati tomorrow.

He said, "The BJP legislature party is likely to meet tomorrow at Guwahati. And in that meeting, you will get all your answers."

He refused to divulge any further details.

The other two allies in the coalition, Asom Gana Parishad and United People's Party Liberal, had left in on the BJP to decide on the Chief Minister.

The alliance had won 75 seats in the 126-member State Assembly.
