Harangajao residents decry erratic power supply, poor roads in Dima Hasao
A local resident alleged that officials of the APDCL are often absent from duty, leaving temporary workers to manage operations.
HAFLONG, April 13: Residents of Harangajao, a township in Dima Hasao district, have voiced strong concern over persistent issues related to erratic power supply and poor road conditions, urging upon the authorities concerned to take immediate remedial action.
Harangajao, which literally translates to ‘slope of red soil’, continues to struggle with basic infrastructure despite being a significant settlement in the district, as well as the third-largest constituency in terms of population.
Speaking to the press, a prominent local resident expressed dissatisfaction with the functioning of power supply department officials. He alleged that officials of the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) are often absent from duty, leaving temporary workers to manage operations.
According to him, these temporary workers, who play a crucial role in maintaining electricity supply, are not receiving their monthly salaries regularly. “They are the backbone of the local power system. Without them, the entire area is left in darkness,” he said.
Irregular electricity supply has severely affected daily life in the area, with students emerging as the worst sufferers. Frequent outages have disrupted studies, especially during crucial academic periods.
Apart from power issues, residents also highlighted the poor condition of the road leading to the local market. The short stretch of road is in a dilapidated state, with uneven surfaces and cuts that are causing inconvenience and frustration among commuters.
The locals have appealed to the departments concerned to address these long-standing grievances at the earliest and ensure proper monitoring of officials and infrastructure development in the area.
