New Delhi, Nov 18: A Gurugram-based firm has secured a highway project valued at Rs 116 crore in Assam from the state-owned National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL).
The contract covers the reconstruction of selected stretches between the 514.36 km and 534.80 km marks of the Jhanji-Demow section of NH-37 (old)—a length of 20.44 kilometres, according to a company statement.
The firm, J Infratech Ltd, on Tuesday, said that it has already received the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) for the assignment and expects to complete the work within four months, while adhering to stringent engineering and safety standards.
“We are confident of completing the project within the stipulated timeframe of four months while maintaining the engineering and safety standards”, stated Abhishek Singla, GM-Business Development of the company.
This particular stretch of NH-37 is a critical link for Upper Assam, connecting significant economic and industrial zones.
Its reconstruction is expected to bolster regional connectivity, enhance road safety and facilitate smoother movement of goods and people.
The contract comes against a backdrop of persistent delays and deterioration on NH-37.
Earlier reports indicate that many firms engaged in the four-laning of NH-37 have repeatedly failed to meet periodic targets, compelling the NHIDCL to make fresh assessments of contractor progress.
In the past, the NHIDCL terminated the contract of a Spanish firm for the Jorhat–Jhanji and Jhanji–Demow stretches due to woefully low progress; at one point the output was as little as 0.76 percent.
Local residents along the Jhanji–Demow stretch have voiced fears after years of stalled progress and unfinished construction.
