Cultural fraternity in Silchar wear black badges to protest Assam-Mizoram clash

Silchar, July 30: People belonging to the cultural fraternity of Silchar took out a silent rally wearing black badges to demonstrate their protest against the barbaric incident on July 26 at Assam-Mizoram interstate border in Lailapur.
On Friday, members of Rupam, a socio-cultural and sports organisation wearing black badges took out the rally from the Nazirpatty area here and roamed around the prime locations of the town. During the rally, the members gave black badges to commoners and also urged them to join in the protest against the incident in which six jawans of Assam Police died and many police persons including former Cachar SP and some civilians as well sustained injuries.
Members of the organisation also observed a minute's silence as a mark of tribute for the jawans who sacrificed their lives in the clash.
"We condemn the barbaric incident and urge upon the central and State Governments to take measures to solve the crisis at the earliest. Also, we appeal to the people of Barak Valley not to be over aggressive since many from the valley are working in Mizoram and we must think about their safety. We demand that the Government must take steps to put an end to this crisis," said Nikhil Paul, general secretary of Rupam organisation.
