The Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2020 was given to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman recently, who is also known as the ‘Father of the Nation’ in Bangladesh. This year, it is for the first time that the award has been awarded posthumously. He was the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh (1972–75) and later became the President of the country in 1975. He co-founded the Awami League in 1949. He is known for his crucial role in advocating political autonomy for East Pakistan. His contribution towards social, economic, and political transformation through non-violent and other Gandhian methods has made him the winner of the Gandhi Peace Prize 2020. He was born on March 17, 1920 and breathed his last on August 12, 1975 in Dhaka.
