Guwahati, Sep 24: Khasi Language film 'Iewduh' by Pradip Kurbah of Meghalaya has already left its mark in the global arena. Now moving a few steps ahead, the film is getting released on OTT platforms all across South Korea.
"We are happy to announce that our film – Iewduh – got released all across South Korea in various OTT platforms including Google Play and others," director Kurbah told The Assam Tribune.
Iewduh is also known as Barabazar which is one of the oldest and largest traditional markets and trade centres in the whole of northeast, in Shillong. The film narrates the daily lives of the people involved with the market and their co-existence with different religions and communities.
"The entire team is really happy and excited and I think this can really open up the South East Asian market for the films from Northeast region, But to make it happen will need to believe in ourselves," Kurbah added.
Earlier, Iewduh became the first Indian film to win the Kim Ji-seok award at the 24th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in South Korea in 2019.
"Iewduh the film is about everyday people, with everyday stories, not dignified as heroes, but people who make the lives of each other better. In every lane of Iewduh is an untold story. It's about the struggle, the hope to give life not just to themselves, but also to those that they love, those that they care for. In Iewduh when reason ends, relationships begin," the multiple-national award winning director said.
In the 67th national film awards, Iewduh won the best audiography award and also the best film in Khasi language.
Shankar Lall Goenka produced the film.
Iewduh has travelled to more than 20 film festivals in India and abroad. The film was released in Shillong on November 14, 2019. Later it was also released in Guwahati, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Kolkata which was a shot in the arm for a film from Meghalaya.
"It's a great development for all of us. We all worked hard and the output was beautiful. Now we are happy that more people will get to watch the film and that too in a different country. It's a human story with global appeal. That's the beauty of cinema," said Debajit Gayan who won the national award for audiography for Iewduh.
