New Delhi, Nov 19: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday arrested Anmol Bishnoi, brother and close aide of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, immediately after he was deported from the United States and landed in New Delhi, officials said.

Anmol had been absconding since 2022 and was detained in the US in November last year.

He was “removed” from American soil on Tuesday and handed over to Indian authorities upon arrival.

With this arrest, he becomes the 19th accused taken into custody as part of the NIA’s probe into the Lawrence Bishnoi-led terror network.

Anmol is wanted in several high-profile criminal cases, including the killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique, the firing outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s Mumbai residence in April 2024, and the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.

Investigators allege that he played a key role in coordinating these operations while overseas.

In a statement, the NIA said Anmol was chargesheeted in March 2023 after evidence established that he had actively supported designated terrorist Goldy Brar and his brother Lawrence Bishnoi in the execution of various acts of terrorism in India between 2020 and 2023.

According to the agency, Anmol continued to run the gang’s operations from the US, directing shooters and ground operatives inside India, arranging logistics and shelter, and overseeing extortion activities from abroad.

The NIA said its investigation is ongoing as part of a larger effort to dismantle the network linking terrorists, gangsters and arms smugglers and to choke the infrastructure and funding channels that enable such syndicates to operate.
