Eeb Allay Ooo is a lively document on the lives of a certain section of the country’s population which, otherwise, goes unnoticed. In this movie, debutant director Prateek Vats sheds light on the life of a migrant worker who is entrusted with the job of shooing monkeys in Delhi’s Raisina Hills.
But, this is certainly not about the monkey menace only, which has emerged as one of the serious civic issues in the country. Through the movie, Vats attempts to mirror certain other burning issues gripping the country, with a special thrust on unemployment.
However, in its pursuit to give an insight into the lives of the job seekers, the filmmaker seldom goes overboard, and, instead, relays the message seamlessly without any hiccups. In fact, he makes you sit back and ponder.
What stands out in the entire run of play is that the narrative continues to stay linear all throughout, making it easier for the audience to relate to the story and understand its nuances, especially those related to class struggle and inequality.
Currently streaming on Netflix, the movie features Shardul Bharadwaj as the protagonist. The way in which Shardul handles the subtle nuances of the character is refreshing to watch. One could really feel the helplessness of the protagonist and identify with his inner conflicts. The satirical take on the grim struggles that a huge chunk of the Indian population invariably faces when they look for a job outside their native state has been portrayed effectively.
Except the fact that the pace of the movie could act as a deterrent for some, the movie carries a distinct perspective to hold the interest of the viewers. All the actors chip in well and never look out of place.
An intriguing take you would not want to miss.
