Mangaldoi, Sept 23: A student lost his life after being attacked by a senior student at Padumpukhuri High School in Sipajhar, on Monday.

The victim, a Class 9 student of the school, sustained severe injuries during the confrontation and was rushed to Deomornoi Hospital before being referred to Mangaldai Civil Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The clash reportedly erupted during the brief interval between the first and second classes. According to eyewitnesses, a Class 10 student, accompanied by three classmates, forcibly took the victim from his classroom and assaulted him.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Rosy Talukdar, arrived at the scene to assess the situation.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that there was no significant cause for the clash. An altercation had occurred between two groups of students the previous afternoon, but further details will emerge as the investigation continues,” Talukdar told The Assam Tribune.

Authorities have detained the four Class 10 students for interrogation, and one has reportedly confessed to playing a direct role in the incident.

In the wake of this tragedy, the victim’s father has expressed deep anguish, accusing the school administration of negligence and a lack of adequate supervision.

"If they had been more vigilant, my son might still be alive," he lamented, highlighting the need for greater responsibility from school officials.

The police investigation is ongoing, with the hope of bringing clarity to the situation.
